The Shipwreck Marinette Ever wonder about the timbers which can sometimes be seen on the hike back from Baldy? They're the remains of the Marinette, which sank in bad weather in 1886, taking 6 lives. Hemimysis Anomala, the Newest Invasive Species A freshwater shrimp from the Caspian Sea is the latest invasive species found in Lake Michigan. Predicted to be "highly disruptive" to the fragile Lake Michigan ecosystem, scientists are worried about how it will affect the food chain. Tanks Removed The huge tanks which were on the beach of Elberta, just south of Frankfort, have been removed! The removal of the storage drums "paves the way for a large development that for years has been a topic of discussion in Benzie County." Click here for the full story.	Massive Migratory Bird Die-off The largest bird die-off in decades has killed thousands of loons, grebes, mergansers, cormorants and other migrating Lake Michigan birds.
